Arcane Journeys / Home - Log In
The Ancient Catacombs
Goal

Defeat all Five undead kings (indicated by '*' around their names), OR gather 75000 gold.
Location variables

Location: Different locations have more or less treasure, and are more or less easy to hide from monsters in.
Containing: Different things found in locations do different special things, so pay attention.
Explored: What percent of the current location you have explored.
Treasure Chance: The chance you will find treasure or items in the current location. This decreases as the above value increases.
Danger: How likely the monsters on this level are to find you when you are not looking for them.
Monsters Flee: How likely monsters will run away when they see you, because you are stronger than them.
Hero Statistics

Health: How much damage you can take from losing an encounter with a monster. The number on the left is your current health, the number on the right is your maximum. If your current health would drop below 1, you instead take turns in shock. This means that the number of turns you use to finish the game increases. You may also take turns in shock if you take large amounts of damage from a monster in one blow.
Strength: When you encounter a monster, you compare your strength to theirs. Also, you each add a random number based on the strength of your attacks. The higher total wins. Ties are won by the player.
Artifice: Helps you do things like sneak and hide.
Skill points: How many points you have left to increase your strength, artifice, or health.
Experience: When this gets to 1000, you get a skill point, and this is reset to 0.
Gold: Important for winning the game one way, and sometimes useful for bribing certain monsters. For every 7500 gold you are carrying, monsters get +1 awareness a turn.

ENERGY:
How much energy you have is determined by adding your current strength to your current artifice. When an action takes 'energy' it takes its points from which ever score (strength, artifice) is higher.
Actions

Wander: Search for monsters and treasure on this level, by moving to a new location.
Sneak: Covertly move to a new location.
Search: Search for items and gold in the current location.
Hide: Reduces monster awareness.
Train: Practice your skills and gain some experience, or other bonuses.
Go up: Go up 1 level.
Go down: Go down 1 level.
Rest: If you are below your maximum health (3/5, etc), strength, or artifice, use this to recover them.
How combat works

You compare your strength plus a random roll based on your attack choice to the monster's strength plus a random roll of their power. Whoever has the higher roll wins the combat. You stay in combat until you win, or escape, meaning you can lose repeatedly to a monster. You have other choices, such as running, blocking, and using items, if you have them.
